Long-term Residential Leaseholds Survey

About the long-term residential leaseholds engagement

A long-term residential lease – sometimes also known as a “99-year lease” or a “leasehold unit” – is a form of home ownership where a person purchases from the owners of a building the right to occupy a premise for a long-term, fixed period (more than 20 years, and usually for 99 years on first sale).

Over time, the B.C. government has heard concerns from long-term residential leaseholders about the terms of leasehold agreements and management of these buildings. To better understand leaseholder concerns and priorities, we are hosting this online survey and a small number of in-person events in summer 2024.

If you have any questions about this engagement, please contact housing.policy@gov.bc.ca
